First of all, what do I mean by Budget Gaming Laptops? Physical Appearance

The physical appearance of the Acer Aspire VX 15 is inspired by the Acer Predator Series. It is a hefty looking laptop which satisfies your inner gaming monster. Although for some of you, it might be too much but I bet such people would be rare.

The top looks extremely stylish with the brushed aluminum finish and two red veins running across the top with the Acer logo in the middle. It just looks breathtaking. I swear anybody would confuse it for the Predator in the first glance. I’m sure you’d spend a lot of your time just admiring the physical appearance of the laptop.

The screen is connected to the base of the laptop through a hinge with the metallic finish along with Aspire VX printed on it. It just gives the whole laptop a manlier look.

The two giant air vents are housed at the back of the laptop in red which just reminds you of the Predator laptops and makes you a proud owner of the Aspire VX series’ laptop.

The left side of the laptop houses one USB 2.0 port along with the power port, SD Card Reader, Headphone Jack, and the lock. While the other side houses 2 USB 2.0 ports along with a LAN port, HDMI port, and a USB Type C port. Well, it isn’t a slim laptop with dimensions of 15.3 x 10.5 x 1.1 inches but is a bit lighter than its other counterparts with just 5.4 pounds of weight under its belt.

The front houses the LED lights for charging and hard drive activity along with the dual speakers which will hardly get blocked even while working in weird positions thus ensuring that you get the best possible sound. Also, the speakers are loud and you definitely feel the beat while listening to the music or playing games.

The bottom part has some more vents for the intake of cool air but lacks the quick release hatch for easy access of RAM. So you’ll have to unscrew the whole bottom panel if you have to access the RAM or any other hardware which might prove tedious and time-consuming.

Display and Input

As soon as you open the flap, you are greeted by the beautiful 15.6 – inch screen. It is a 1080p IPS Panel (1920 x 1080 with an aspect ratio of 16:9) with Full HD resolution but sometimes, you might feel that the screen colors are dull and not so bright. But hey, you can’t get everything for this price.

The Keyboard and Trackpad are snappy and responsive. Your hand rests well on the keyboard and you don’t strain your wrists while typing. The keys are soft and require very less force to work. Moreover, the keyboard is backlit in red color which goes perfectly with the overall appearance of the laptop and makes sure you are able to type easily even in the dark. The trackpad ensures smooth and precision tracking along with some standard Windows 10 gesture support. Overall, both the keyboard and the trackpad are fast and efficient and you will be happy with these two.

Hardware

In our Acer Aspire VX 15 review, the hardware is the main one because it is what makes a Gaming Notebook a Gaming Notebook. Compromising on the hardware means compromising on the performance. So it is crucial to research about the hardware before making a buying decision. But this gaming laptop can be a handful when it comes to hardware. This puppy is loaded with a lot of firepower in this range and perhaps that’s why it is one of the best Gaming Notebooks in the budget range currently out there in the market.Acer Aspire VX 15 is available in various models with different configurations and prices. So choose the one best suited for you. You can either choose the one with the Intel Core i5 –7300HQ processor Quad-core clocked at 2.50 GHz or the one with Intel Core i7 – 7700HQ processor Quad-core clocked at 2.80 GHz. So, you can see that Acer has loaded this puppy with one of the best processors out there in the market. So you can expect some pretty good performance from this machine.

The fast Core i7/i5 processor is further supported by 16GB/8GB of DDR4 SDRAM. The reign of the DDR3 has passed. Now is the time of DDR4. 16 GB DDR4 is more than capable for handling your heavy games like Grand Theft Auto V or Battlefield 1. If you want more, then you can always upgrade to 32 GB DDR4 which will make your gaming experience a bit smoother.

Now the most important thing that forms the backbone of any gaming device. The GPU!!! With the Acer Aspire VX 15, you get the option of choosing between the two incredible GPUs, The NVidia GeForce GTX 1050 with 4 GB Dedicated Memory or The NVidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4 GB Dedicated Memory. Surely GTX 1050 Ti is much better as compared to the GTX 1050. So if you ask me, then go for the GTX 1050 Ti.

Storage

Here comes another important aspect of a Gaming Notebook. Or in this case, any machine – Storage!!! What’s the use of all this power without sufficient storage??? You need a lot of storage to install all those big and heavy games. Well, here too you get a bunch of options. You can either opt for 256 GB SSD, 512 GB SSD, or 1 TB HDD. SSDs are always better than the HDDs. So if you want to opt for the 256 GB SSD or the 512 GB SSD, then you might be a little cramped for storage. But don’t worry. You can always open this puppy up and add a 2.5 – inch HDD, which you will have to buy separately (I know it sucks). Some assembly would be required to hook up that 2.5 – inch HDD. So, you would be required to fill out an online form for a complimentary mounting kit which will include a 2.5 – inch bracket, eight screws, and an SATA cable. So there surely is a hassle for that. But I guess you could always ask the guy at the store to hook you up with the HDD at the time of purchase (if you are buying at a store). But if you are planning to buy this puppy online, then I am afraid you don’t even have this option.

Software

All the models of the Acer Aspire VX 15 Gaming Notebook comes with Windows 10 Home pre-installed on the device. Along with this, you might get some usual bloatware which you can uninstall anytime you want. It also comes with Dolby Audio Enhancements which makes the speakers really loud and good. You usually this kind of sound in Acer Predator series’ laptops but it’s good Acer is bringing it to the affordable models as well.

Battery

Battery!!! Power!!! It is again an important aspect as to power all that heavy hardware, so need power. So it is important to research a bit about the battery backup as you can’t be running around looking for a power source when you want some entertainment or want to surf on a bigger screen. That’s what a Best Budget Gaming Laptop. Isn’t it? VX 15 is packed with a 3 – cell 53 W batteries which are powered by the 135 W charger. It has a solid battery backup as compared to the other Gaming Notebooks which lasts somewhere around 7 to 7.5 hours of continuous web surfing on Wi-Fi. So, you get the gist…But there is one slight problem. The battery is sealed inside the laptop. So if you are planning to change the battery, you’ll have to go through the long process of removing the back panel and all. But hopefully, you could get it done by a technician at the service center itself where you would be buying the battery.

 Performance

As the Windows is installed on the SSD, the functioning of the laptop is very smooth and efficient. Also, the boot time is very good and the device boots up really fast. Multitasking and normal daily use is a piece of cake for this device as it is built for much more and doesn’t show any sign of lag of heat even when working with 50 google chrome tabs open with the video playing in one and downloading in other. But when you are playing some hefty games, the notebook heats up but the heat is kept away from the palm rest and most of the keyboard by the efficient cooling system set up in place by the company. Only the middle portion of the keyboard seems to get heat up which is usually not the area where your hand is while playing games. So I guess all is good in that department.

Also, although the laptop is equipped with great hardware, you shouldn’t expect extraordinary gaming performance (like playing Battlefield 1 on highest settings on 60 fps or something like that). You will have to drop the settings to normal for some of the games and even with normal settings, I guess you would be getting anything around 30 fps to 45 fps or maybe a bit more or less depending on the game you are playing. But I guess that is pretty good for gaming and expecting anything more from a machine in this price range would not be fair.

Overall, Acer Aspire VX 15 is an awesome Gaming Laptop and due to all the things it carries under its hood, it is definitely one of the best Budget Gaming Laptops. Acer Aspire VX 15 review: The Screen Quality and the Low Storage are perhaps the only cons this device has. Out of which, the storage problem can be easily solved and even the display should be if you aren’t so picky.
